This was the 2008 conference for W.I.S.E. (Washington Initiative for Supported Empoyment), a non-profit organization working with people with disabilities. The conference was in Ellensberg, WA. I gave two classes; Overcoming Disabilities & Assistance Dogs and other Assistive Devices in the Workplace. It was a blast! |

The photos in this album were graciously taken by one of the organizers of the Seattle area Amputee Empowerment Day of 2008. She was watching my performance and presentation and a month later I was overjoyed to receive these in the mail. It is a good example of my work thus far. Unfortunately there is no video of the same dance but they were taken in sequence and if you look at them really fast you can perhaps see how they fit together nicely. Soon I will be adding a link to video of me dancing so stay tuned! |
This was a 30' rock climbing wall inside our local YMCA. I climbed the wall a few months ago with my prosthesis on but after spending over 5 weeks in the wheelchair, not walking, I was inspired to try it without my leg on. I can honestly say that I was surprised more than anyone else that I was not only going to achieve this challenge but do it with relative ease! I was amazed that it was as easy as it was without having my other leg. I discovered that my prosthesis was actually hindering, if not also adding to the difficulty of, my climb. The leg is not very flexible as the knee doesn't bend anywhere close to 90 degrees and in climbing I often need to bend the leg a lot more than that. I was actually more scared repelling down because I was afraid of falling but there was no need to be afraid. I was in very good hands with Travis! Thanks Travis!!!
